Hearts Content Organic Farm is a small organic farm along the Brantford to Dundas rail trail. We focus on herbs, wildcraft and making value added herbal products (salves, lip balms, dried herbs), conservation (restoring wetlands, and planting shelterbelts, mini-forest, and pollinators) and protecting farmland.

- grow organic crops (e.g. medicinal & edible herbs, pollinators, berries & nuts),
-
- do wildcrafting – harvesting herbs to dry for sale to an herbal company,
-
- make value added products such as dried herbs, salves & lip balms,
-
- host farmstay (camping, glamping, and accessible suites),
-
- work on conservation projects (restoring wetlands, planting trees),
-
- work to protect farmland, natural areas, and water,
-
- promote ecotourism with bird and plant walks, and
-
- rescue and redistribute organic food, with a focus on migrant farm workers and seniors.
Job Description:

You would be involved in helping with the following:
-
- planting, cultivating & harvesting organic crops
-
- wildcrafting – harvesting and drying herbs,
-
- making value added products such as dried herbs, salves & lip balms,
-
- caring for the grounds, campsites and farmstay units,
-
- planting and caring for trees and shrubs, pruning and chainsaw work,
-
- eradicating invasive species using nontoxic methods,
-
- assisting with birding and plant walks,
-
- sorting and redistributing rescued organic food,
-
- working to protect farmland, natural areas, and water, and
-
- assorted construction related work on the farm.

Job Requirements:
This is a physically demanding job, working indoors and outdoors.
We are looking to hire someone who
-
- has a healthy and positive attitude,
-
- can work alone or with others,
-
- has some farming or hands-on conservation experience, and
-
- is highly motivated, and who has skills with work related farming and tree care.
We will provide mentoring and work with you.

- Schedule: flexible 7-8 hour day shift, Monday to Friday, occasional weekends

- Assets: Spanish or Thai speaking, experience with driving a tractor, comfortable using small tools and equipment, driver’s license, experience operating a chain saw, pruning

We host cyclists and tours from various not for profits: (Hamilton Farm Crawl, Environment Hamilton, Ontario by Bike and Waterfront Regeneration Trust). We host farmstay and provide meals for cycling tours that come through our farm on the Brantford to Dundas rail trail.
The position involves helping with ecotourism on our farm.
It includes

- maintenance of the grounds, gardens, and campsites

- preparation of the farm stay units,
-
- assistance with food preparation for tourist groups,
-
- helping with medicinal and edible plant walks, and conservation walks.

- some small scale construction.

- sorting and redistributing rescued organic food, and

- outreach to migrant farm workers,
Eligibility: Must be between 18 & 30 years old; must be legally allowed to work in Canada (a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee),

- Term: Pay: $22/hour, 35 hours/week for 8 weeks, with possibility of extension.

- Benefits: 4% vacation pay
